Our Collaboration
I came to know Taylor (Rancho del Comienzo) when another one of my horses was weaned and I needed a place for her to learn how to be a horse with other weanlings. Taylor introduced me to the beautiful pastures of Rancho Corazon, where she was employed at the time, and when time permitted I would visit “Roxie” to say hello down on lush green pastures.
When Roxie was ready to be started under saddle, I reached out to Taylor, having remembered how calm and centered she seemed. We talked about her style and philosophy of starting horses slowly and with a lot of respect, and I decided to let her be the first person to back my now six-year-old-mare.
Roxie stayed with Taylor for about six weeks, learning the ropes of being a saddle horse. I’ll never forget the first day I rode Roxie – I knew I had made an amazing decision with Taylor because my filly was confident, soft, relaxed and easy-going. Once the six weeks were over, Roxie joined me back at home in Santa Fe, NM, and we started trail riding together.
When I wanted to take it a step further and prepare Roxie for jumping, again it was Taylor I turned to, and at that time I also had so much confidence in her that I asked her to also ride my mustang Blue for a bit and see if she could teach him some things.
Taylor and I continued to keep in contact with each other and, when I decided I wanted to help One Mustang at a Time find a better life, naturally I turned to Taylor. Together, we chose the first Pegasus Ambassador 6147 (now named “Tally” by proud owner Katy Reynolds) from a herd in California (Devil’s Garden). I watched from a distance P47’s progress and I knew for certain that Taylor and I were a great team. Although I am not the on the ground trainer, if I were, I would do things very similarly.
I hope to work continue my work with Taylor and other outstanding professionals as I carry on saving One Mustang at a Time.
